Robert Vlug

a short story

graphic designer since his younger years

Robert Vlug (1967) is a graphic artist with a classic graphic education. Before the digital age, he taught graphic design with pencil, ink, paint and a ruler. He continued early on to apply the computer in his digital designs. The combination of the old drawing and painting techniques with today's digital methods of designing, result in art of outstanding quality. Through specific use of colors and a graphical techniques he creates depth and contrast.

In the 17th century, artists like Rembrandt and Frans Hals often worked on behalf of wealthy merchants. These merchants enjoyed immortalizing their lives and possessions on canvas with paint and brush. Anno 2015, not much has changed. Robert Vlug often works on commission and paints portraits of cars on large format canvas. The materials used for the paintings are of the highest quality. The canvases are of the finest Belgian linen and the preferred acrylic paint is from highest quality.

For three hundred years the work of the artist was limited to cities in its immediate vicinity. Nowadays, it is different. Robert Vlug's paintings are offered globally. His customer can be found in cities such as London, Milan, Moscow, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Dubai, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Since 1998, Robert Vlug paints large size portraits of cars on linen canvases.

paintings

pencil, acrylic paint on fine Belgian linnen canvases

Robert Vlug creates his paintings mainly on commission. He photographs the car or he leaves shooting to a professional photographer. Then he makes a digital design. This design is shown for approval to the client. If it is approved, he makes the painting, with pencil and acrylic paint on canvas.

The making of the painting can be done in almost any location in the world. The linen canvas will be purchased and delivered locally. Robert Vlug comes to the location, and will be staying in a hotel nearby. Within five days he creates the painting. This can be done, at the customer's home (garage) or in the showroom of the local dealer (see events). The flight and hotel costs are minimized by Robert Vlug.

events

Robert Vlug at your event as entertainer or speaker

Since the late 90s Robert Vlug offers to create paintings and car-art (removable paint on cars) at almost any location in the world. This is highly appreciated by the audience and the client. This is an ideal way to create an event of interest to visitors.

For the launch of MINI in 2001, he made two MINI art-cars. He also worked for other brands and companies around the world. Besides art-cars Robert Vlug also makes paintings on location.

Before the painting is made, Robert Vlug makes a digital design. The final result is already known. The paintings on canvas can be sold after the event to cover (a part) of the cost. Prior to the event can determine which car is going to be painted on canvas. This could be the car of a customer who'd like to have a painting of his own car.

Examples of the costs (including travel and subsistence) of an event (4 to 6-hour): London €950 | $1.100, Barcelona €950 | $1.100, New York €1.500 | $1.725, Los Angeles €1.750 | $2.050, Shanghai €2.250 | $2.590
